About

Dr Lucien von Schomberg is a Senior Lecturer in Creativity and Innovation at the University of Greenwich. Additionally, he serves as the Academic Portfolio Lead in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Sustainability, and is Programme Director for the BA in Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Research and Academic Leadership
With a background in continental philosophy, his research focuses on responsible innovation, the philosophy of technology, and business ethics. He has published in leading journals, presented at international conferences, and contributed to EU-funded consortia totalling €15 million. He is an Associate Editor at the Journal of Responsible Innovation, and editorial board member of academic journals Philosophy of Management and NOvation: Critical Studies of Innovation. He presented his work in conferences and workshops across Austria, Belgium, Brasil, Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, Türkiye, United Kingdom, and United States.

ethixCube™ and Project Leadership
Lucien is the founder of ethixCube™ and leads projects that use game-based methods to strengthen ethics in industry, higher education, and public policy. He is Principal Investigator of BRIDGE (€60,000) and GEPPIE (£23,996.24), and welcomes new pilots, partnerships, and investment conversations.

Teaching Excellence in Ethics and Entrepreneurship
At Greenwich, Lucien teaches a large Business Ethics module (400+ students), also delivered at partner institutions in Vietnam and Malaysia. He led the design of the BA Entrepreneurship and Innovation programme and received the Inspirational Teaching Award at the 2024 Student-Led Teaching Awards. 

Education and International Experience
Lucien graduated with distinction in philosophy from the KU Leuven, where he specialised in continental philosophy with notable interest in existential phenomenology and traditional metaphysics. He then pursued a PhD project in the field of responsible innovation at Wageningen University which he completed in 2022. During his PhD, Lucien went on research visits to Arizona State University and the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique, and worked as a research consultant for the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. More recently, in 2023, Lucien served as Visiting Professor at the Federal University of Paraná.

External Engagement: Consultancy,  Football, Theatre
Outside academia, Lucien is part of the ‘Future Leaders Steering Group’ at the Institute of Business Ethics (IBE), sits on the board of the World Happiness Project (WHP), and provides independent consulting across a variety of sectors. He is also an UEFA-Advanced Licence football coach with more than ten years of international coaching experience. He has previously worked for several professional football clubs, including AFC Ajax, KRC Genk, and Oud-Heverlee Leuven. In addition, Lucien is a playwright and actor with London-based theatre companies with productions at The Etcetera Theatre and Union Theatre. He enjoys a multicultural background and is fluent in Dutch, English, Spanish, and French.
